“Hancock”: RJ’s Movie Review

“Hancock”, which stars the so-called “King of Summer Movies” — Will Smith, and the beautiful Charlize Theron caught my attention, but not quite. It seemed such a promising movie when I first saw the posters and the trailer. Eager to see what this movie offers, I marked my calendar (mental note) that I will watch this. This morning, I got the chance to see it as early as 11am. To my surprise, I didn’t like it as much as I expected. And it’s not even because of earlier reviews since I’ve even avoided reading any reviews online or offline because I didn’t want to be affected by it. I didn’t want to enter the cinema having prejudice for “Hancock”. As it turns out, although some scenes must have been costly to produce, the plot was poorly written, lacking in “meat”. It’s as if whoever wrote that movie had many things in mind while writing that. The story is underdeveloped. The characters, no matter how good Will Smith and Charlize are as actors, seemed to be hard to digest. It just doesn’t sink in to you. And much as I want to write more about it, I’m just too frustrated to do so. The premise would have been a very good idea for a movie — a man of great strength, lost and having an identity crisis, craving for acceptance — tries to deal with his personal issues in order to serve the greater good. But it looked to me like a movie/script they had to rush just so it can make it to summer. I give it 2 stars. (in a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the highest).

I watched Hancock in the big screen as well because I get interested with the trailer. Honestly, there is nothing special about the movie. It is a little predictable. Do you agree?
