Told You So, Sulpicio Lines…

See? Sulpicio Lines’ TRO (Temporary Restraining Order) petition against BMI’s ongoing inquiry has been junked by Manila RTC (Regional Trial Court). This is precisely why, as of this time, the best option is to support BMI (Bureau of Marine Inquiry) instead of trying to pass the ball to their “inquisitor of choice” (or the “rightful body to conduct investigation” as per Sulpicio Lines). Because honestly, how much different can BMI’s and MARINA’s decision be compared to each other?

If these investigating bodies are to gather factual information alone, it is only statistically and theoretically possible that they will arrive at the same decision.

I am however, with Sulpicio Lines in their request to have BMI’s and MARINA’s inquiry consolidated — and rightfully so, since they are under the same agency indeed. BMI will take care of the technical aspects and inquiry on the exact reason for its tragic sinking. MARINA, on the other hand will take care of the legal, economic, and possibly, criminal liability of Sulpicio Lines. Under the same agency, having access to consolidated information, they should then arrive at a stronger, “beyond reasonable doubt”-kind of decision.

It is however too early to tell if the TRO petition will ultimately be junked since a “motion for reconsideration” has already been filed. This frustrates me, maybe because I have this gut feeling that this is all favoring Sulpicio Lines — in that, it buys them time to think of many excuses. And then, most likely lead to their absolution. Oh God, please help us. Let justice prevail. Over 800 victims are just too many to forget. Over 800 mourning families are just too hard to console.

Whatever happens to this inquiry, I pray that God will spare us from another sea tragedy. But if Sulpicio Lines continues to operate after all this, God have mercy on us.
