Stuck In A Moment You Can’t Get Out Of

And now, to cap my 3-in-a-row song posts for the day, I give you, U2's "Stuck In A Moment".
This is where I am right now. And this is what I sing to myself.

"Stuck In A Moment" is part of their 2000 album "All That You Can't Leave Behind" which also includes my other U2 favorites "Elevation" and "Beautiful Day" -- with "Elevation" having a truly smashing and amazing video. "Elevation" is also included in the "Tomb Raider: Lara Croft" movie which stars the luckiest woman alive for me -- Angelina Jolie. It is this movie that made me a fan of hers.

You gotta love U2 and Bono. And boy, do I love Bono.

If you come to think of it --  U2, The Cranberries, The Corrs -- Irish bands are just awesome. In a league of its own.

What can I say, everything is great about this song. Great video. Great lyrics. Great vocals. Well, you can expect nothing less from U2.

Waiting In Vain

Yeah, I know -- another song. I've been sick for a long time and I need a break from all the seriousness around me, so please, indulge me on this.

Another one of my favorites -- "Waiting In Vain". This is a sad song that was originally done by Bob Marley. The one I'm putting up for your listening pleasure is an Annie Lennox cover, wonderfully and soulfully done. This has been covered locally by M.Y.M.P (Make Your Momma Proud) as well but I prefer and cry over Annie Lennox's version. Annie Lennox's version was used as the soundtrack for the 2001 movie "Serendipity" starring Kate Beckinsale and John Cusack. As the title suggests, this is a love story about "a talent for making fortunate discoveries while searching for other things" or making fortunate discoveries by accident" or "the randomness of fate". It is the act of finding something valuable or delightful when you are not looking for it.  A stroke of luck. Destiny.

That is my favorite love story of all time. I swear.  First time I heard Annie Lennox's version (which came out in her album "Medusa"),  I knew I needed to have that song.

This song is obviously about waiting in vain, waiting to be loved, never given that love, and waiting some more, and knocking some more. Some love, huh? :)

Believe me when I say that some people would rather wait in vain than not wait at all.

The movie, on the contrary has a more audience-pleasing outcome as opposed to the premise of this song.

Here’s to You, My “Crazy Love”

Let's lighten things up a bit and veer away from the chaos and torment that is Philippine politics.

My dear friends, I share with you my favorite Rod Stewart cover ever.

Originally done by Van Morrison and perfectly rendered by Rod Stewart (him and his oh-so-expressive voice that drives me crazy), "Crazy Love" is an ode to a lover you would want to come home to everyday, do nothing with and yet feel as if there is no place in the world you'd rather be in...and there's no other person you'd rather be with.

A toast to that dream in all of us, to find that someone that will give us "Crazy Love" like no other can. I have found mine. I hope and wish you have found yours too. And if you haven't already, cheer up! There's always somebody for someone and good things come to those who wait. Continue reading →

There’s No Easy Way: Peace and Its Price

This entry is part 20 of 20 in the series The Cost of Peace: BJE MOA on AD

"There is nothing easier than lopping off heads and nothing harder than developing ideas." -- Fyodor Dostoevsky

"I like to believe that people in the long run are going to do more to promote peace than our governments. Indeed, I think that people want peace so much that one of these days governments had better get out of their way and let them have it."

"Wars are seldom caused by spontaneous hatreds between people, for peoples in general are too ignorant of one another to have grievances and too indifferent to what goes on beyond their borders to plan conquests. They must be urged to the slaughter by politicians who know how to alarm them." Henry Mencken

"There is no such thing as a good war and there is no such thing as a bad peace." Benjamin Franklin

"Short-circuiting the long-established principles of patient negotiation leads to war, not peace." Jimmy Carter

I miss the good old days -- when things weren't as complicated as they are now. It seemed rather peaceful then (or so I thought). Fact is, the world in general has not been truly peaceful at any time. Wars are as constant as change. And this world has seen one too many wars. There will always be small wars fought in certain parts of the world for all sorts of reason. I think humankind has a penchant for wars -- probably part of what makes us human -- to be hostile at times when certain boundaries are crossed. Continue reading →

Now Well and Never Better

Hello everyone! :) So happy to let you know that I am now all better. I have been sick for quite a long time and I have missed updating this blog. Many things have happened and there are I few things that break my heart:

1. That I missed voting for the Philippine Blog Awards held yesterday, September 21, 2008.

2. That I missed writing about recent events and updates in the news.

3. That I missed writing updates about my personal life and other life thoughts.

4. That this blog has been down for about the same period as I was sick..issue with my webhost.

5. And so many other things.. :)

I will start blogging again tomorrow. Hope all of you are well. God bless you all and see you back here, okay? :) Cheers!

This Blogger is Sick

I apologize if I haven't posted new entries for a few days now. I have been ill and couldn't write. I haven't checked with my doctor yet but will do this afternoon. I have joint pains, fever and a terrible headache that won't go away. I've had recurring headaches for months now.

I will write again once I get better. Take care everyone.
