I did that when I was just starting with those networks and was looking for interesting people to follow. Now I"m on this painstaking state of ignoring friend invites from people I don't know. It's difficult and it breaks my heart but I've been on these networks for too long to know that the benefits will outweigh the occasional heartaches. :) I'm partly at fault about following a lot of people on Twitter and adding virtual friends aggressively on Facebook.
