Has it really been a year since I last wrote about International Women's Day in 2009? It seems only yesterday.

If I have to,
I can do anything.
I am strong.
I am invincible.
I am woman.

Every year, we go through this process when we pause for a moment and think about how our lives have been touched one way or another by a woman. It may range from a simple, comforting smile to an entire life changed forever by one woman's courage or strength or love.

Everyday, we see them walk among us -- women just being themselves, doing what they do best -- serving and protecting, nurturing and loving, giving and inspiring...

Their selfless acts have become as natural to them as breathing, their show of support as ubiquitous as a tap on one's shoulder just when you need it.

It's an overwhelming experience -- to be loved selflessly and tirelessly by someone so strong yet so fragile, so sweet yet so dangerous, so innocent yet so knowledgeable. So sensitive yet so strong.

It is precisely these very same contradictions that make women so unique. Whether it's a mother's touch, a friend's embrace or a lover's kiss -- a woman's inexplicable capacity to take in so much and give the same without losing anything in the process but instead gaining more and giving more is almost magical if not unbelievable.

The love of a woman is fierce -- like a double-edged sword too dangerous for the faint of heart and too pure for the opportunistic soul.

Oftentimes, a woman's capacity for great love is downplayed as nothing more than a dutiful fulfillment of her mission, as if everything she does must have a reason, otherwise she is but a lost soul, whose existence becomes devoid of meaning and purpose.

In truth, she needs no validation nor recognition. She seeks none of those. For to her, everything she does is a labor of love, born of her immense drive to put the other person's happiness above her own -- always. To her, that is reason enough. That is reason itself.

It's a pity that while we claim that the world has become more tolerant and accepting of women, the exact opposite is true for most of them in many countries.

With the exception of a few Western countries, more and more women in the East suffer in silence in the face of maltreatment and abuse -- most times through no fault of their own.

In stark contrast with men, society finds it hard to separate a woman's achievements and contributions from the personal life she leads. This is probably one of -- if not the biggest discrimination women face. When a male political figure commits blunders and unthinkable sins for example, the world easily downplays, forgives and forgets.

But when a woman of the same stature does the same, she is eternally doomed and haunted by past mistakes -- never to fully recover from her foibles. It is as if she is not at all allowed to be human.

(Case in point: Bill Clinton vs. Sarah Palin; Tiger Woods vs. Northern Ireland's Iris Robinson)

I'd like to think that the world, after years of struggling with feminism has changed. But the glaring truth is that it hasn't changed a bit. It just wants us to believe it has just so we'd stop whining and complaining about it.

***

International Women's Day is also a celebration of women achievements. And for this year, I choose to honor a great woman writer, Lualhati Bautista who embodies the strong and stubborn woman who refuses to sit down and take it. Her strength shines through in her writing and her life and works serve as an inspiration to aspiring women writers. Lualhati Bautista -- all talent, all woman.

Today, as we celebrate the many ways a woman loves and the many wonderful ways we have benefited from such love, let us not forget the many forgotten women all over the world -- unrecognized, abandoned and unloved.

On this day, may God touch them in the night as they fall asleep weeping, may they wake up to a more caring world the next day. May they walk without fear among the crowd. May they speak without reservations of their feelings and fears. May they find comfort in the thought that they are remembered every year.

This is for all the faceless women of the world. One day, all will be rectified. One day, they will get what's due to them. One day soon.

Today is International Women's Day. Remember all the wonderful women in your lives. Let them know they are appreciated. Let them know they are loved.

As usual, giving in to requests for the lyrics of LAKAS-KAMPI-CMD's standard bearer, presidentiable Gilbert "Gibo" Teodoro's latest TV commercial/informercial/jingle/campaign song "Lipad" written and performed by the band Rivermaya.

You know it breaks my heart when you Googlers get to my blog not finding what you're looking for. So here it is, for your viewing and listening pleasure (or disgust -- whichever applies).

Click here if you're looking for lyrics and video of the new "Lipad" commercial performed by Rivermaya.
Surprised that since its Youtube upload yesterday, January 7, 2010, this "Sulong" infomercial/commercial/TVC/campaign ad barely had 500 views. Pretty much shows how "unpopular" he is compared to cousin Noynoy Aquino.

Surprised that since its Youtube upload yesterday, January 7, 2010, this "Sulong" infomercial/commercial/TVC/campaign ad barely had 500 views. Pretty much shows how "unpopular" he is compared to cousin Noynoy Aquino.

Looks like the coming election is becoming more and more a "battle of the bands" than a "battle of brands". Don't be surprised. The electorate is mainly "young" with over 70% of voters aged below 39. This my friend, is how you connect to the young and hip crowd.

This one's from Rico Blanco's "Posible" song and apparently, Gibo failed to ask permission from Blanco that this original composition of his will be used for Gibo's infomercial. While Gibo's camp insists that there was no violation of intellectual property rights the issue just refuses to die.

As another public service of this blog, I'm publishing the words (narration/lyrics) here and of course, the video.

by: Paul Anka

Good morning, yesterday
You wake up and time has slipped away
And suddenly it's hard to find
The memories you left behind
Remember, do you remember?

The laughter and the tears
The shadows of misty yesteryears
The good times and the bad you've seen
And all the others in between
Remember, do you remember
The times of your life (do you remember)

Reach back for the joy and the sorrow
Put them away in your mind
The mem'ries are time that you borrow
To spend when you get to tomorrow

Here comes the saddest part
The seasons are passing one by one
So gather moments while you may
Collect the dreams you dream today
Remember, will you remember
The times of your life

Gather moments while you may
Collect the dreams you dream today
Of your life
Of your life

Added lyrics and video of Villar's NEWEST informercial called "Hindi Bawal Mangarap ang Mahirap".

Ipinanganak kang mahirap
Patuloy na nangangarap
Magsipag at magtiyaga
Balang araw aahon ka
Hindi bawal mangarap
Ang mahirap
Bastat maaabot ito
Sa malinis na paraan
Si Villar ay nangarap
Kahit mahirap
At nagtiwala sa Maykapal
At may paninindigan

Naging Mahirap

At kanyang plano'y magka-bahay tayo?

Si Villar ang tunay na mahirap.
si Villar ang tunay na may malasakit.
Si Villar ang may kakayahan
At gumawa ng sariling pangalan.

Si Manny Villar ang magtatapos
ng ating kahirapan.

_________________________

[display_podcast]

These past few days, I've been surprised at what I have become. Knowing how I tend to instantly react to almost anything, for days, I have miraculously managed to read instead of write, to listen instead of speak, to watch instead of show off and well, to think instead of just "absorb".

My model of brevity, youngest daughter of the late Sec. Blas Ople, the ever-amiable Ms. Toots Ople, President of the Blas Ople Policy Center and Training Institute wrote that we are "living in interesting times". Indeed we are. The turn of events have been so "life-changing" in a way. It's as if the heavens itself have conspired to bring us to this moment in our Philippine history where we are once again called upon to "heed the call of the times". (She has written an article about "how wrong Mar was" back at FilipinoNewsNetwork.com. I suggest you go over there and read it, it's an interesting take from the perspective of someone who has worked closely with Mar for a long time.)

But as the Pedestrian Observer put forth, it is critical we don't go all giddy and romantic at this time because we may well be wrong and end up disappointed. Let us not set aside objectivity for drama. Why yes, drama is so tempting a choice, I know. One look at the TV on prime time would tell you how many of us has already given in to that pleasurable temptation.

Such is the case we have been presented with at this historical moment in our socio-political story. Once again, we see people slowly stepping-up to the challenge of a so-called "social revolution" of sorts. Of course, it may be such a sweeping generalization and probably not a sentiment shared by 100% of the population.

The fact remains, however that this opportune time is not something orchestrated by a few influential people -- unlike similar revolutions of the past. Here, we have deaths that nature and not man, has dictated. They say deaths are indeed profound events for it heralds the birth of another -- in this case, the death of Philippine democracy's icon President Cory Aquino "is" giving birth to renewed hope, renewed optimism and renewed trust on our most-valued resources -- our people. Notice that I write "is giving birth" instead of "has given birth". Obviously, I wrote that to stress a point.

As of this time, events are unfolding as if it were a grand plan designed for success -- like an artistically laid out "SUCCESS AT LAST" domino design. One flick is all it takes, we watch in awe and then, boom! "Success!". I can already imagine the spectators scratching their heads, mouths agape, mind all twisted, heart frozen, spirit jumping out of their stiff bodies -- all of them, screaming with their mouth shut -- "That's it? That easy? Why then did it take this long?".

Cut to reality.

Wishful thinking, folks. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Drama -- we are so absorbed in it that we fail to see past what is under our noses. Do you get that? I don't either. Point is, here we are again, back to where we were years ago, at this crossroad, only that, the circumstances are no longer the same. The options available are no longer the same. The political climate. The economic climate. The social climate. Heck, even the literal "climate" is different.

Hence, it begs two questions: Do we decide now based on how we decided years back? Do we bank on history to salvage what is left of our present and what we hope for in our future? Maybe we should ask ourselves that.

Proof that we are fueled by drama: Days before, the web was abuzz with news about the possibility of a Aquino-Roxas tandem. September 1, the moment news broke out about an "important" announcement of Sen. Mar Roxas, everyone (myself included) was agog at Twitter and Facebook and was frantically texting everyone in their phone book that an "important" announcement was to be made in that small Gabaldon room of Club Filipino. It was the hottest intrigue of the day, I even postponed going out in the afternoon to pay bills. Who wouldn't want to miss that, right? What's he gonna say? Will it be Roxas-Aquino? Aquino-Roxas? Will he withdraw completely? When the news finally came out, there I was teary-eyed and broken-hearted. Mar Roxas, that presidential aspirant I never liked in the first place, took my heart for a full hour or more. He suddenly became my "man of the moment" -- the self-sacrificing hero of 2010. Lost in this drama, it was as if I was ready to bleed for him. Such a statesman. Praise here. Praise there. Praise Mar.

(Manolo Quezon writes a compelling article about Mar Roxas post-withdrawal -- Statesman.)

But then, after the emotions waned, I asked, where did my 30mins. go? Of course, the objectivity returned. The rationality came back. And then I thought, well, isn't that the most logical and safest thing for Mar Roxas to do anyway? Given that he hasn't really gained as much popularity in the surveys as he hoped for? By doing this, rallying behind Noynoy Aquino, backing somebody already backed-up by the people's clamor for a "messiah", Roxas redeems himself and poises himself anew as a "reformist" candidate, making us all nostalgic, back to the times when "Mr. Palengke" swept us all of our feet and when DTI and Mar was synonymous with public service and results. By withdrawing his bid for presidency and reinforcing his reason for doing so by saying he is doing this for our country, Mar manages to salvage whatever it is that's left of his reputation. Now, is it all a strategy? Is it really too early for him to do this, hence raising doubts of a double "change of heart"? No one knows for sure.

I don't intend to downplay the "sacrifice". Mar Roxas is as human as humans get. He has dreams and we are all silent, probably uninterested witnesses to that dream. But anyone who has ever dreamed in his/her life knows how devastating it is to sacrifice "your dream" for "someone else's". It tears your soul apart and sometimes, there's no mending it.

Here was a man, ridiculed for his "Ramdam ko kayo. Lalaban tayo!" line and his seemingly oh-so-pretentious "padyak" TV ads, who have already spent millions for his bid, announcing in public that he is withdrawing his presidential ambitions in favor of Noynoy's. Kumbaga sa movies, what a completely unexpected twist!!! You didn't see it coming, did you? Huh? :) I know I didn't.

Let's go back to that point I want to stress about deaths "giving birth" to renewed optimism. The verb is in the present tense because in this country, politics is as good as "now" -- this moment, this time -- the present. We see mass "actions" everywhere now, and these are actions not necessarily taken to the streets but within the walls of small offices, houses, institutions, organizations and the like. It is a silent action to pursue unity and coalition -- an action that they hope will ultimately lead to a "united opposition" where only one candidate, supported by all other political parties and independent groups will run against the "anointed" of the Palace -- against the "power of the incumbent" and the power of what pundits call a "well-oiled political machinery". LAKAS-KAMPI-CMD is not to be underestimated. It is highly probable that their candidate's win will be a walk in the park under a multi-candidate/multi-party race. The Palace says, "the more, the merrier". Of course, that's what they hope for. They know their Math. And if there was anything laudable (if you can even call it that) about the Palace, it's their being "consistent" all the way. They are "in it to win it" says the party spokesperson, and I believe that to be true.

So this "rebirth", knowing how short-sighted we Filipinos have become, and how short our attenti0n span is, will probably not last that long. There is a small window of opportunity here that needs to be seized. Otherwise, all concerted efforts will be lost to oblivion, maybe in just a matter of months if not weeks. Then we'll all go back to our old selves, cursing and whining like a sore loser. I hope I am wrong.

What difference then does this decision of Mar Roxas make in light of the 2010 elections, you ask?

Well, frankly not much. To my mind, we can all just dream of salvation. Dream of progress. Dream of a good government. In the same way that we didn't get to this pitiful situation overnight, one man's "sacrifice" or another's "courage" won't make much of a difference overnight. But hell, it's not so bad to dream. So let's.

What will save us all? A sweeping social revolution will. Is that possible? Well, "in your dreams, pare!". Dream with me while we sing this song... I say, "Wake up everybody!". Because unless we all wake up, roll up our sleeves and "work it", we could all say goodbye to this "lost chance". And all these sacrifices -- Mar's, Ninoy's or anyone else's -- would all be in vain.

It is time to work.

But of course, why would we? Drama is oh-so-tempting and yes, a lot more gratifying. :)

*******

Wake Up Everybody ( by: Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes)

Wake up everybody no more sleeping in bed
No more backward thinkin' time for thinkin' ahead
The world has changed so very much
From what it used to be so
there is so much hatred war and poverty
Wake up all the teachers time to teach a new way
Maybe then they'll listen to what you have to say
Cause they're the ones who's coming up and the world is in their hands
when you teach the children teach them the best you can.

Chorus
The world won't get no better if we just let it be
The world won't get no better we gotta change it yeah, just you and me.

Wake up all the doctors make the ol' people well
They're the ones who suffer an' who catch all the hell
But they don't have so very long before the Judgement Day
So won'tcha make them happy before they pass away.
Wake up all the builders time to build a new land
I know we can do it if we all lend a hand
The only thing we have to do is put it in our mind
Surely things will work out they do it every time.

"Doing All Right" was written by Brian May and Tim Staffell while in the pre-Queen band, Smile. Anyway I should be doing all right
Doing all right

Should be waiting for the skies to clear

Since we're tired of hearing our dear President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo tell us many sugar-coated lies --- exaggerating on small progress made, bombarding us with impressive video presentations and ramming so-called impressive statistics down our throats while at the same time downplaying the many important issues that hound her administration to this day, why not, for a change, hear her sing instead?

Beauty, eh? :) Lovely idea, if you ask me. But what song? What song would an honest PGMA would have wanted us to hear? If there was only "us" -- the Filipino people and God to listen to her minus her allies (that seem to put so much pressure on her excellency), what do you think the song would be about?

I got a song for you, PGMA. And I would love to hear you sing it to all of us.

Something To Say
by: Harem Scarem

Yesterday I had it all worked out to a "T"
But now something's wrong between you and me
I was wrong, so wrong
To think that I would stay
Seasons come and seasons go
And today is another day
I wanna say now's the time
To go our separate ways
I don't know I might be wrong
Could we find the strength to say
That our love, our love's seen some better days
And who's to say if I had the chance
That I'd make the choice to stay
If you ever had something that you wanted to say
You better start talking before I go away
I wish that I could say I've been feeling okay
That I'll be bringing on the better days
But I wouldn't feel right
Knowing I was lying to you

Am I wasting all my time, will we try to make amends
I try to read between the lines
But all I see is the end

***

Yes, PGMA. In today's 2009 State of the Nation Address happening at 4PM, the last of yours, how I wish you sing this to us. (and if you could also play us the kick-ass intro, that'd be so cool!) And how I wish you digest every line. I have something to say. Everyone has something to say to you.

I used to like you PGMA. I actually voted for you as VP in 98 and as President in 2004. Now, I grieve at such a mistake that have cost me and my country so much suffering.

But you know, you don't really have to sing it. You can just tell this to us, as sincerely as you can. Tell us the truth -- as it is, no lies, no games, no pretense. Tell us that you've had shortcomings, tell us you fell short of our expectations, tell us, that you, high and mighty as you are, have also made countless mistakes that steered us into the wrong direction. Then maybe, just maybe, we can forgive you. Because only then can we see the good side of you and your brand of leadership. Stop forcing us to see things through your rose-colored glasses. We both know we are deluding ourselves. In your last hurrah, the last few months of your Presidency, come down from your mighty throne, throw those glasses and let's see reality together. If you ever wanted to leave us a legacy, leave us a legacy of contrition, of making amends. It may be too little now, but dear President, I tell you, it is never too late.

****

Dear countrymen, there you go. If you ever have something that you wanted to say, you better start talking before she goes away -- that is, if she ever goes away. #Suggested Further Reading:

Sa pang-gigipit ng taong nasa kapangyarihan (free from threats of power)
Sa pananakot ng kapitalistang mapagsamantala (free from economic threats)
Sa pagpili ng nais kong relihiyon o paniniwala (freedom of choice)
Sa pagboto ng ninais kong lider (right and freedom to vote)
(free from hunger, poverty and crime)

Malaya akong magtanong, magsaliksik, makialam (public disclosure)

Kailan man 'di na paaalipin.

Handog ng Pilipino sa mundo,
Mapayapang paraang pagbabago.
Katotohanan, kalayaan, katarungan
Ay kayang makamit na walang dahas.
Magkasama na'ng mahirap at mayaman.
Kapit-bisig madre, pari, at sundalo.
Naging langit itong bahagi ng mundo.

Huwag muling payagang umiral ang dilim.
Tinig ng bawat tao'y bigyan ng pansin.
Magkakapatid lahat sa Panginoon.
Ito'y lagi nating tatandaan.
(repeat refrain two times)

Coda:
Mapayapang paraang pagbabago.
Katotohanan, kalayaan, katarungan.
Ay kayang makamit na walang dahas.
Basta't magkaisa tayong lahat!

And I hope mainstream media finally caught up after last night’s unnerving development on House Resolution (HR) 1109, otherwise known as the choo choo train to #conass. Apparently, that term no longer applies because as of last night, the train mutated to a speeding bullet train — proof of how much destruction can happen overnight when we lose vigilance for a moment and choose to be indifferent. Well, what do you know..the revered house can fast-track a bill after all, if they so wanted. While others sleep soundly, those sneaky bastards who sold their soul for a few silver coins are now selling the entire country to the highest bidder (money, position, and everything else). You wake up one morning and boom! You’ve been sold! The height of treachery!

This resolution filed last November 2008 by Congressman Luis Villafuerte of Camarines Sure, who happens to be a kababayan (both of my parents hail from Camarines Sur, Bicol) which was not intended for any other purpose but to ask the Supreme Court on voting procedures by the Senate and the House (how to vote — separately or collectively?) is now being fashioned in a way that may serve the purpose of a select few and not the benefit of the whole Filipino nation. As of this time, he has declared withdrawal of support to the resolution he himself authored and consequently withdrew from the party as well so he’s now independent, so to speak. Are we seeing moro-moro style tactics here?

I have heard of countless reassurances from the President’s men that this ChaCha is not to be feared or despised on account of a possible power perpetuation of GMA. Rep. Villafuerte himself assures this, adding that a resolution/pledge/covenant has been explicitly stated on the bill that they will not tinker with presidential term extension or anything similar to that.

But I refuse to be led astray. Is everything happening according to plan? Are we being played here? I don’t know about you, but I think something’s amiss. They used to employ cloak and dagger attack back in the days, that I’m aware of. But now, it’s totally different. Everything happens “in-your-face” like an attack “in broad daylight” now that if you still feel nothing, I’d say you have a malignant case of denial. Better get yourself checked.

Is your Congressman/woman part of this wholesale pambabastos of the Filipino people’s sentiment over HR 1109 at Bastusang Pambansa?

Check the list below and check it twice, find out who’s naughty and who’s nice. If your representative is up for re-election, I suggest you think it over -- a million times if possible, before voting for him/her.

See if your district representative has shamelessly sold you out!

*Note: Let it be known that I’m proud and happy of our good Congressman Justin “Timmy” Chipeco of the 2nd District of Laguna for NOT SUPPORTING HR 1109. Hats off to you, sir!

I never really knew how to move you
So I tried to intrude through the little holes in your veins

And I saw you
But that's not an invitation
That's all I get
If this is communication
I disconnect
I've seen you, I know you
But I don't know
How to connect, so I disconnect

You always seem to know where to find me and I'm still here behind you
In the corner of your eye.
I'll never really learn how to love you
But I know that I love you through the hole in the sky.

Where I see you
And that's not an invitation
How to connect, so I disconnect

Well this is an invitation
It's not a threat
If you want communication
That's what you get
I'm talking and talking
But I don't know
How to connect
And I hold a record for being patient
With your kind of hesitation

Oh I need you, you want me
But I don't know how to connect

So I disconnect. I disconnect. #

I won't be writing much on this blog for quite some time for personal reasons. However, I will still write posts once in a while but I won't engage you in thoughtful monologues as before (that means I wouldn't be writing much original content for a time). I hope I don't get to disappoint the few people who visit here (that's people like you) for whatever reason. I write crappy articles anyway so I'm sure my posts would hardly be missed.

I would like to stress that this "partial" blogging hiatus doesn't have anything to do with the Lenten Season or the fact that my birthday's coming up. It's just a natural course that people (and blogs) go through. Don't ask me why because there's no way I'd tell you.

The following song is "And I Love You So" by Don McLean -- whose voice I will always love and whose songwriting skills I will always worship (now, don't be jealous Rod Stewart -- you know you aren't my first love).

And I Love You So
Written and Performed by: Don McLean

And I love you so.
The people ask me how,
How I've lived till now.
I tell them I don't know.

I guess they understand
How lonely life has been.
But life began again
The day you took my hand.

And, yes, I know how lonely life can be.
The shadows follow me, and the night won't set me free.
But I don't let the evening get me down
Now that you're around me.

And you love me too.
Your thoughts are just for me
You set my spirit free.
I'm happy that you do.

The book of life is brief
And once a page is read,
All but love is dead.
This is my belief.

And yes, I know how loveless life can be.
The shadows follow me, and the night won't set me free.
But I don't let the evening get me down
Now that you're around me.

And I love you so.
The people ask me how,
How I've lived till now.
I tell them, "I don't know."Suggested Further Reading:

I've always wondered if this song was composed post-Twitter. My guess it that this song came first. But Uncle Cracker sure as hell was prophetic, wasn't he?

If Twitter had a theme song, this would be it!

Right now, I'm following almost 2,000 twitters so obviously I can't seem to keep up with their tweets. Adding more pressure for me to "unfollow" certain people is Twitter's new "followers" vs. "followed" ratio. Right now, I can't follow new twitters unless I "unfollow some". And I'm telling you, it's so damn hard to choose who to "unfollow". There's always this thought that I might miss something if I unfollow one or two of them. :) It's a continuing daily struggle -- this filtering mode I've been in these past few days. And right now, I hardly reduced the number of people I follow. Well, good luck to me.

By the way, you might want to follow me on Twitter, too! :)

Maybe part of me is actually a happy stalker after all... :) Meantime, enjoy my edited" version of "Follow Me" by Uncle Cracker.
All you know is when I I'm with tweet you, you jump with free glee

-- from "She's Always A Woman" by Billy Joel

(Click here to listen to this song.)

I woke up pretty late today -- a lot late than usual. Probably because it's a Sunday. But guess the first thing that came to my mind that evoked a wide smile on my face? Today -- March 8, 2009 is International Women's Day! It's my day. Ladies, it's our day! I'm sure by now, Bloggers Unite participating bloggers are churning-out posts and populating the web with "women's day" articles.

Having that thought in mind, I immediately logged in to my desktop and decided to start this day with really good "ladies music". I plan to have coffee after this post, shop for food, watch a movie, read a good book and savor every minute of this day. After all, I know that this day is being celebrated and commemorated the world over -- not just by women like me, but more so, by men who acknowledge, understand and appreciate the wonderful role that women play in their lives and society in general. Your mother. Your grandmother. Your aunt. Your niece. Your cousin. Your friend. Your classmate. Your officemate. Your boss. The world, with all its hassles and burdens, becomes a little more bearable because of that female that inspires you to go to work or that lady at the grocery store that's a little more helpful or that appreciative boss who recognizes your efforts for a job well done.

Women, as I've mentioned before in a previous post, have now become prime movers and shakers of society. Gone are the days when their task is limited to household chores and gone are the days when they were preferred to "be seen and not heard". Today, in a more tolerant and modern society, women have gone far beyond territories that their predecessors were allowed to roam in.They have exceeded expectations in the economic, social and even political arena. No longer can it be said that women are inferior by any measure. History is replete with stories of successful women in various fields.

But let it be said, for the purpose of fair discussion and display of gratefulness, that this so-called "girl power" generation has been successful partly and in by no means lesser, because of the fact that the men of our generation have been supportive of women. And for that, I would like to honor these men as well, who saw beyond the beauty of women -- men who saw that what lies within is far greater than what was evident in that disarming smile or that long, shiny pair of adorable, sexy legs.

I honor and congratulate women from all over the world, from the past to the present -- and yes, even to the women of the future, of the accomplishments they have made, are making and will make. Ladies, this is your day.

Today we celebrate International Women's Day -- officially. But to me, and to most people surrounded by wonderful women, Everyday is Women's Day!

Just yesterday morning they let me know you were gone
Susanne the plans they made put an end to you
I walked out this morning and I wrote down this song
I just cant remember who to send it to

Ive seen fire and Ive seen rain
Ive seen sunny days that I thought would never end
Ive seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that Id see you again

Wont you look down upon me, jesus
Youve got to help me make a stand
Youve just got to see me through another day
My bodys aching and my time is at hand
And I wont make it any other way

Oh, Ive seen fire and Ive seen rain
Ive seen sunny days that I thought would never end
Ive seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that Id see you again

Been walking my mind to an easy time my back turned towards the sun
Lord knows when the cold wind blows itll turn your head around
Well, theres hours of time on the telephone line to talk about things
To come
Sweet dreams and flying machines in pieces on the ground

Oh, Ive seen fire and Ive seen rain
Ive seen sunny days that I thought would never end
Ive seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that Id see you, baby, one more time again, now

Thought Id see you one more time again
Theres just a few things coming my way this time around, now
Thought Id see you, thought Id see you fire and rain, nowSuggested Further Reading:

But if I ever die this year, let this song play endlessly while I'm taken to my resting place, for if my life doesn't begin here and now, I'm sure there -- where I will nourish the grass above me -- is where my life begins.

Waiting For My Real Life To Begin
Performed by: Colin Hay

Any minute now my ship is coming in
I'll keep checking the horizon
And I'll stand on the bow
And feel the waves come crashing
Come crashing down, down, down on me

And you say,"Be still, my love
Open up your heart
Let the light shine in"
Don't you understand?
I already have a plan
I'm waiting for my real life to begin

When I awoke today suddenly nothing happened
But in my dreams I slew the dragon
And down this beaten path
And up this cobbled lane
I'm walking in my own footsteps once again

And you say,"Just be here now
Forget about the past
Your mask is wearing thin"
Let me throw one more dice
I know that I can win
I'm waiting for my real life to begin

Any minute now my ship is coming in
I'll keep checking the horizon
And I'll check my machine
There's sure to be that call
It's gonna happen soon, soon, oh so very soon
It's just that times are lean

And you say,"Be still, my love
Open up your heart
Let the light shine in"
Don't you understand?
I already have a plan
I'm waiting for my real life to begin

Hey heyeyeyeyey
Hey yeeeeeee
Hey heyeyeyeyey
Eeh eeh eeh eeh eh x5

On a clear day
I can see, see for a long way

As the year draws to a close a few hours from now, allow me to reflect on the things that happened in the year that we will leave behind. Never has there been a time more challenging than these times. Never have we been faced by such pressing issues such as war, global warming, oil supply problems, social and political turmoil, incurable diseases, technology dilemmas and moral degradation -- all at the same time.
I pray that we don't lose hope. I pray that despite of all these seemingly insurmountable challenges, we resolve to forge ahead -- march with courage -- and press on. We survived years of evolution. We've been through worse and came out victorious. If we did it then, we can do it again.

Diamond may be the hardest material on earth, but even that shimmering, mighty piece of stone will shy away from the true champion -- the toughest of all -- the human heart.

In remembering the good and the bad of the year that was, indulge me on this dedication:

I make this post for all those who've been victims of injustice, in any form.

I make this post for all the politicians who seek nothing but more power and wealth and forget the higher purpose of their existence.

I make this post for the media, new and old, print, TV and radio that sensationalized news in the interest of business instead of the general public.

I make this post for our armed forces and police who, despite of the dire conditions they are in, remain steadfast in their commitment and thrust -- serving our country and its people.

I make this post for the hungry, the forgotten, the weak, the abused, the exploited.

I make this post for the entire Filipino people, who, despite of ourselves and of the circumstances that subvert our otherwise sound judgement and well-meaning conscience, I hold dear to my heart and whose future I worry about and pray for.

I make this post for our brothers and sisters the world over of any race or color, on the brink of a feared global recession, may they be strong amidst all crises they're about to face.

I make this post for you who come back to read my blog for any reason. It is for you that I pray earnestly to God that I do not lack words to put together, that somehow, I get to convey exactly how I feel, and that somehow you feel it and see the world from where I am, from my perspective -- so I don't watch alone.

With everyone talking Charter Change, term extensions, graft and corruption cover-ups and trials by media, one has to be deaf, mute and numb to not care at all.

Of all that's happened in the past, I only have this to say: "I'm amazed." And no song aptly puts this into words than one of the same title by My Morning Jacket.
Happy New Year Everyone! May you never cease to be amazed -- and not stop there, but do something about it.

I'm amazed in the quiet ocean
I'm amazed at your wrong devotion
I'm amazed at what the people saying
I'm amazed by a divided nation
Like the middle of the earth
I get disrupted
I'm amazed at all that has been
I'm amazed at all who be
I'm amazed at the tv stations
I'm amazed what they want me to believe
After all is said and done
Now lets seek justice

I'm amazed at the evoltion
I'm amazed at the lack of faith
I'm amazed at love we are rejected
I'm amazed that we accepted this place
Like the middle of the earth and the middle of the ages
Like a river I get disrupted

I'm amazed

I'm amaaaaaaaaaazed...

It Ain't Over 'Til It's Over
Written and Performed by: Lenny Kravitz

Here we are, still together
We are one...
So much time, wasted,
Playing games with love

So many tears I've cried
So much pain inside
But baby it ain't over 'til it's over
So many years we've tried
To keep our love alive
But baby it ain't over 'til it's over

How many times
Did we give up
But we always worked things out
And all my doubts and fears
Kept me wondering, yeahhh
If I'd always, always be in love

So many tears I've cried
So much pain inside
But baby it ain't over 'til it's over

So many years we've tried
And kept our love alive
'Cause baby it ain't over 'til it's over

So many tears I've cried
So much pain inside
Baby it ain't over 'til it's over

So many years we've tried
And kept our love alive
'Cause baby it ain't over 'til it's over

So many tears I've cried
So much pain inside
Baby it ain't over 'til it's over

So many years we've tried
to kept our love alive
'Cause baby it ain't over 'til it's over (over, over)

So many tears I've cried
So much pain inside
Baby it ain't over 'til it's over

So many years we've tried
And kept our love alive
'Cause baby it ain't over 'til it's over (over, over, over)

Go get your wounded heart
Seeing spiders, I'm told they never lie.
Go get your brother love
Go get your losing head
Seeing fire, I'm told it [...]
How I Could Just Kill A Man is another original post from: adayinthelifeofrj.com

How I Could Just Kill A Man - Charlotte Sometimes

Go get your ribbon box
Go get your wounded heart
Seeing spiders, I'm told they never lie.

Go get your brother love
Go get your losing head
Seeing fire, I'm told it never burns.

I want it all, I pull you back. I want it all.

Cry baby, cry baby, cry. Soaking down your face.
Cry baby, cry baby, and you can't understand how I could just kill a man.

No to your letters love
No to unsturdy hands
Sleeping eyes, I'm told they never lie.

No to your key of rust
No to your raging words
Sleeping tires, I'm told they never drive.

(prechorus and chorus repeats)

If I wanted to stay, you won't stand in my way
But I'm choosing to leave with your heart on my sleeve
It feels too good without you
