"Hancock", which stars the so-called "King of Summer Movies" -- Will Smith, and the beautiful Charlize Theron caught my attention, but not quite. It seemed such a promising movie when I first saw the posters and the trailer. Eager to see what this movie offers, I marked my calendar (mental note) that I will watch this. This morning, I got the chance to see it as early as 11am. Continue reading →
Assuming you have no idea what a "Death Note" is, I guess we can all agree that the mere relationship of those two words would bring chills to your spine. Imagine how it would feel if you did find one and saw your name written all over it. Scary, isn't it? Well, I'm sure I would freak out if not faint instantly or drop dead, if you may. I've had a few encounters with the supernatural and others may not even consider it entirely supernatural at all. But if I had one supernatural characteristic, that would be seeing the future 2-3 seconds ahead. It has happened to me several times before. It manifested in not so grand an event though. I remember the few times it happened when I somewhat saw clearly in my mind that the glass I was holding will drop and break, and break it did, 2 seconds later. Weird, huh?
So, have you heard about "Death Note"? If you haven't yet, read on. It's a new movie from NCM Fathom and Viz Pictures which is based on the highly-successful action mystery manga. It's a story about a student whose name is Light Yagami. It all begins when he finds a "Death Note" which has been left or dropped by a roque Shinigami death god called "Ryuk". Anyone whose name is written on the "Death Note" dies. Light, discovering the supernatural power the note possesses, used it in his mission to eradicate evil from the world. Bad people die, perfect world -- end of story. Sounds right? Not quite. After criminals start dropping dead like crazy, authorities decided to send "L", an ace-detective to hunt down Light who must have been using the Death Note's power irresponsibly and beyond reason. The movie then evolves around character clashes of Light and "L" both trying to prove each other wrong and claiming only one of them is right.
If you are a manga fan, you shouldn't dare miss this movie. For the first time, this story will come alive on the big screen for two (2) nights only, that's May 20 and 21, 2008 at 7:30PM. A special 20-minute feature will also be shown, discussing how this movie came about and the concept behind its adaptation from manga to the big screen. If you dig Red Hot Chili Pepper's music, better still, since their hit song "Dani California" will also be featured.
There's no official rating for the film yet, but it's expected to get an "R" rating. So, please be advised. Tickets are available now but seating is limited so you better get yours now if you're up to see this movie. You can buy tickets by going to the DeathNote website. Just enter your ZIP code and you're good to go. Remember, this movie runs for 2 nights only.
Many people wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
When I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms,
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
The flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
The joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Men themselves have wondered
what they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them,
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Now you understand
just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing,
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palms of my hands,
the need for my care.
Because I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's my mother and all your mothers
And my grandmothers and your grandmothers
And my great grandmothers and your greats
And my great greats
And yours
And all you women
And Me!
